It’s 2023 and it almost feels weird that when it comes to fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV), the world ain’t got enough options. I mean, it’s just the Toyota Mirai and Hyundai NEXO currently, and don’t forget, these are available only in a few markets. But don’t worry, Honda has got some clarity now; I mean, the Clarity FCEV is no longer in production but the company is planning to launch an all-new FCEV model in 2024 in North America and Japan.
The new FCEV in question is apparently gonna be based on the 6th gen CR-V that debuted last July. Honda didn’t share a lot of details but said that the vehicle is gonna be equipped with the next-generation fuel cell system that is being co-developed with General Motors. Remember, Honda and GM are running the Fuel Cell System Manufacturing LLC (FCSM) joint venture in Michigan. But anyway, a plug-in function will also be there for added convenience.
The official statement also says that the new fuel cell system will be used in commercial vehicles, stationary power stations and construction machinery as well.
