The EQC SUV might have not received the expected response here in India, but Mercedes-Benz wants to give the all-electric offering another shot with the EQS sedan this time. But it’s not the EQS 450+ (RWD) or EQS 580 4Matic that is being offered in the country; it’s the AMG EQS 53 4Matic+, priced at INR 2,45,00,000, ex-showroom, Pan India. The lesser variants are also reportedly coming and will be locally assembled as opposed to the AMG which is a CBU. In Germany, you can literally have two AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ sedans for the price you pay for one in India, but that’s how CBUs work here.
Key features include MBUX Hyperscreen, 4-zone climate control, AMG sports seats, 15-speaker Burmester audio system, and ADAS such as Active Steering Assist with Active Lane Change Assist; Active Emergency Stop Assist; Active Lane Keeping Assist; Active Blind Spot Assist, and more.
The EQS 53 4Matic+ is powered by two electric motors, one at each axle, offering combined figures of 484 kW (658 metric hp) and 950 Nm (701 lb-ft) of torque as standard. The optional Dynamic Plus package gets you 560 kW (761 metric hp) and 1,020 Nm (752 lb-ft) of torque.
Official performance figures with the standard setup are as follows: 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 220 km/h (137 mph); with the aforementioned Dynamic Plus package, the figures are 3.4 seconds and 250 km/h (155 mph), respectively.
The battery capacity remains to be 107.8 kWh. Range as per WLTP is claimed to be between 526-580 km (327-360 mi). Download the brochure here.
