DS Automobiles has added the DS 7 to its portfolio, with key features including a sharp front fascia, Pixel LED Vision 3.0 headlights, Light Veil daytime running lights, and a 360 hp PHEV powertrain. On DS’ official French website, both the DS 7 Crossback and the new DS 7 were listed at the time of publishing this story, suggesting that the latter is being offered as a different product.
The aforementioned Pixel LED Vision 3.0 headlights apparently throw just the right amount of optimized light as needed, and the main beam is capable of illuminating up to 380 metres. The outer edge module takes care of illuminating the corners depending on the steering angle. As for the Light Veil, those L-shaped vertical elements are made up of 33 LEDs; they animate when the car is locked/unlocked. The laser-etched polycarbonate surface is painted on the inside to achieve that alternating look. At the rear, you have the reptile scales-like taillight detailing—which is also found on the DS 7 Crossback.
As standard, the crossover rides on 19-inch aerodynamically optimized wheels, but if you pick the range-topping E-Tense 4×4 360 variant, you get stylish 21-inch ‘Brooklyn’ wheels. The window surrounds and roof rails are optionally available in gloss black.
Inside, the DS 7 looks just like its cross sibling, especially when you look at the dashboard where you’ll find a 12-inch touchscreen, a 12-inch driver display, and of course, a B.R.M. R180 timepiece as well. However, the Nappa leather seat upholstery has some interesting patterns. While it may remind you of some giant reptile skin texture, it was actually inspired by metal bracelets of luxury watches. But anyway, the seats are claimed to offer incredible levels of comfort.
Other key highlights of the DS 7 include DS Active Scan Suspension—which is a camera-controlled damping system that adjusts each wheel independently; DS Night Vision infrared camera; DS Driver Attention Monitoring, and DS Drive Assist level 2 semi-autonomous driving.
In addition to regular petrol (outside Europe), regular diesel, E-Tense 225 PHEV, and E-Tense 4×4 300 PHEV options, the DS 7 also offers the E-Tense 4×4 360 PHEV option, combining a 147 kW (200 metric hp) petrol engine, an 81 kW (110 metric hp) front electric motor and an 82.5 kW (112 metric hp) rear electric motor, offering a system output of 265 kW (360 metric hp). Transmission is an 8-speed automatic. A 14.2 kWh battery pack is estimated to offer a WLTP mixed EV range of up to 65 km (40 mi) and a WLTP urban cycle EV range of up to 81 km (50 mi). Charging time is about two hours on a 7.4 kW charger.
