SAIC Motor has revealed the MG5 Electric facelift for the European markets. Billed as “the world’s first all-electric station wagon”, the new MG5 will be available at authorized dealers later this month. As before, buyers can choose from standard range and long range options.
For the uninitiated, the MG5 Electric is a re-badged Roewe Ei5, just like the MG Marvel R is a re-badged Roewe Marvel R. Since the MG brand is native to Europe, I guess you could say, SAIC has made a sensible decision. The facelift has cleaned-up the front fascia with new LED headlights, a new bumper and a closed-off upper “grille”. The stying revisions not only appear to be aerodynamic but also more suit the vehicle’s electric propulsion. The side profile remains mostly unchanged except for a new set of 17-inch wheels (16-inch for the base model), while at the rear, there are new Audi-ish taillight signatures and a new bumper.
The refreshed cabin features a stylish new dashboard that houses a 7-inch digital cluster and a 10.25-inch central touchscreen. Other key features include Android Auto & Apple Carplay connectivity, 6 speakers, auto AC, PM2.5 filter, power-adjustable driver seat, front seat heating, leatherette seat upholstery, and up to 1,367 litres of rear cargo space. ADAS include all the usual stuff, such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Keep Assistance, and more.
The standard range model’s front electric motor offers 130 kW (177 metric hp) and 280 Nm (206.5 lb-ft) of torque. A 50.3 kWh battery pack (LFP) is claimed to offer a WLTP range of up to 320 km (198 mi). In the long range model, the power output drops to 115 kW (156 metric hp), while the torque remains the same. A 61.1 kWh battery pack (NMC) here is claimed to offer a WLTP range of up to 400 km (248.5 mi). DC fast charging from 5-80% SoC is claimed to take 40 minutes.
