Global NCAP has crash tested four cars as part of its latest #SaferCarsforIndia campaign involving Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Honda City (4th gen/6th gen globally) and Honda Jazz (3rd gen), all of which have scored 4 stars in the adult occupant category, but you’ll be happy to know that the City has scored 4 stars in the child occupant category as well.
Nissan Magnite
Let’s start with the Nissan Magnite then, shall we? The subcompact crossover has scored 4 stars in the adult occupant category and 2 stars in the child occupant category.
The Magnite comes with two front airbags, front seat belt pretensioners, front seat belt reminder, and 4-channel ABS as standard. The car was subjected only to a frontal-offset test, most likely because it doesn’t offer any side or curtain airbags. But anyway, the key point to note here is that the bodyshell integrity and the footwell area were rated as stable. Download the full report here.
Renault Kiger
Next up we have the Magnite’s cousin Renault Kiger, which has also scored 4 stars in the adult occupant category and 2 stars in the child occupant category, unsurprisingly.
The Kiger also comes with two front airbags, front seat belt pretensioners, front seat belt reminder, and 4-channel ABS as standard. This one too was subjected only to a frontal-offset test. However, unlike Magnite, GNCAP rated Kiger’s bodyshell integrity as unstable and added that the bodyshell was not capable of withstanding further loadings, while the footwell area was rated as stable. Honda City
Interestingly, Honda is selling two generations of City in India currently: 4th gen (6th gen globally) and 5th gen (7th gen globally), and GNCAP decided to test the former. Speaking of which, it scored 4 stars in both adult and child occupant categories.
The City offers two front airbags, front seat belt reminder, Isofix anchorages, and 4-channel ABS as standard equipment. The sedan was also subjected only to a frontal-offset test, for reasons mentioned earlier. While it scored 4 stars in both adult and child occupant categories somehow, GNCAP rated both the bodyshell integrity and footwell area as unstable. Download the full report here.
Honda Jazz
Finally, we have the Honda Jazz. Honda is still selling the 3rd gen model here in India and not the 4th generation model that debuted in October 2019. Speaking of which, it scored 4 stars in the adult occupant category and 3 stars in the child occupant category.
The Jazz offers two front airbags, front seat belt reminder, Isofix anchorages, and 4-channel ABS as standard equipment. This one too was subjected only to a frontal-offset test. The good news is that GNCAP rated the bodyshell integrity as stable and it was capable of withstanding further loadings; the footwell area was also rated as stable. Download the full report here.
