For those wondering, ‘AGS’ is an acronym for Auto Gear Shift, which is MSIL’s terminology for Automated Manual Transmission or AMT.
But anyway, what’s new for 2022? Well, visually, the car looks exactly the same as it looked just over three years ago. However, there are a new set of grey 14-inch alloy wheels to match with the new dual-tone paint schemes: Magma Grey and Gallant Red, both with black roof and A-pillars.
It’s the same story inside. The seats feature a new beige & dark grey dual-tone fabric upholstery that is different from that of the original car. Other than that, the rest of the things remain unchanged, of course, including a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, 4 speakers, and so on.
As for standard safety features, the 2022 WagonR gets two front airbags, ABS with EBD, driver & passenger seat belt reminder, speed alert system, rear parking sensors and central locking. The front fog lamps are standard on the range-topping ZXi+ trim, while the AGS models get Hill Hold Assist feature. Download the brochure here.
As mentioned earlier, there are two engines on offer. The 1.0L (998 cc) K10C 3-cylinder unit offers 49 kW (67 metric hp) and 89 Nm (66 lb-ft) of torque with petrol and 41.7 kW (57 metric hp) and 82.1 Nm (60.5 lb-ft) with CNG. The larger 1.2-litre (1,197 cc) K12N 4-cylinder engine offers 66 kW (90 metric hp) and 113 Nm (83 lb-ft) of torque. Transmission is either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. The 2022 model also offers Idle Start Stop tech.
MSIL claims approximately 16% higher fuel-efficiency of 25.19 km/l for the 1.0L VXi AGS variant and 19% higher fuel efficiency of 24.43 km/l for the 1.2L ZXi AGS variant than outgoing model. The CNG variants claim to offer 34.05 km/kg.
