The Dongfeng Honda joint venture has announced that it is building a new manufacturing facility dedicated to electric vehicles in Wuhan Economic Development Zone in Hubei Province, China. The 630,000 square meter facility will have an annual production capacity of 120,000 units initially. Production is expected to commence in 2024.

The upcoming plant will produce vehicles as sustainably as possible by using solar power and recycled water at the premises. The company said that the “plant also will strive to achieve an industry-leading level of automation, mainly in the assembly area.”

At present, Dongfeng Honda sells a couple of all-electric crossovers in China: M-NV and X-NV. The M-NV has got a single electric motor at the front that offers 120 kW (163 metric hp) and 280 Nm (206.5 lb-ft) of torque. It packs a ternary lithium battery that is claimed to offer a cruising range of up to 480 km (298 mi). The X-NV also has a single front electric motor with the same output figures. However, the cruising range here is claimed to be 465 km (289 mi). But I’m sure the company has more BEVs in the pipeline.
