Genesis has revealed some more details of the second-gen G90 that showcased only its exterior styling just a couple of weeks ago. We now have the interior to take a look at, in addition to key features and powertrain options.
Let’s quickly go over its dimensions. As you might know, the G90 offers two wheelbase options. The standard model measures 5,275 mm long, 1,930 mm wide and 1,490 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,180 mm. The long-wheelbase model boasts an extra length of 190 mm, resulting in an extra wheelbase of 190 mm. Compared with the previous-gen model, the new G90 is significantly larger. The LWB offers Multi Chamber air suspension and Rear Wheel Steering as standard. Also included is the Preview-Electronic Control Suspension (Preview-ECS) which optimizes the suspension with the help of a front camera and navigation data. The system can recognize a bump ahead and lift the front by 10 mm to reduce the jolt to the occupants, for example.
The cabin looks luxurious and well put together; maybe not as luxurious as an S-Class or a Flying Spur, but still, looks very, very luxurious—especially the LWB variant featured here with a Brown theme and Diamond quilting that sort of reminds us of Bentley. And, notice how that middle element on the dashboard kinda separates the touchscreen and the driver display; it looks as if two hands are covering the driver display. Some of the materials used inside—such as the applique on the passenger side of the dashboard, the backs of the front seats, and the door upper appliques are apparently made of reprocessed waste papers and newspapers.
Key highlights
Other key highlights include a 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system; a fragrance dispenser; ‘ergo-relaxing’ seats; a speaker on the driver’s seat headrest so that guide/warning sounds can be heard only by the driver; 10.2-inch touchscreens for the rear occupants, and an 8-inch rear armrest touchscreen. Each ‘ergo-relaxing’ seat features 10 air cells on the seatback and two air cells on the cushion, supporting four modes of body massage, including full-body, waist, pelvis, and upper body, with three options for massage duration and strength. The new G90 also boasts Genesis’ quietest ride yet, with the standard ANC-R (Active Noise Control-Road) system.
Few more claims include coating the G90’s interior with an antibacterial Silver Zinc Zeolite material, which prevents the growth of bacteria and microorganisms on areas with artificial leather, mats and touchpoints such as door trims and armrests. And, UV-C LED lamps are installed in the box of the second row’s armrests to sterilize items for passengers when driving.
Safety and ADAS include a new Hands On Detection (HOD) feature that can detect if the driver is holding the steering wheel or not when using systems such as Highway Driving Assist; Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Remote Smart Parking Assist. A Digital Key (smartphone-based) comes standard.
Moving on to the juicy bits of the story, the standard wheelbase model is powered by a 3.5-litre (3,470 cc) turbocharged V6 petrol engine that pumps out 280 kW (380 metric hp) and 530 Nm (391 lb-ft) of torque. Transmission is an 8-speed automatic. The LWB is also powered by the same powertrain but is coupled with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. While the standard wheelbase model is available in RWD and AWD options, the LWB is AWD only.
