Jetson ONE eVTOL personal aircraft ready for sales

Swedish startup Jetson has revealed the ONE eVTOL personal aircraft that is now ready for sales. The company has taken about 3 years to perfect the prototype or proof-of-concept into a consumer-grade version we’re seeing now. Will talk about its pricing and availability in a minute, but first, let’s take a look at the aircraft itself.

Speaking of which, as you can see, it’s a fairly compact contraption where the frame is built around a sporty bucket seat. The “race-car-inspired spaceframe” as Jetson puts it, is a combination of aluminium and carbon fibre panels. The propeller arms are also made of carbon fibre. Safety systems include triple flight computers for redundancy, lidar sensors for obstacle avoidance, and a ballistic parachute as well.

As for the technical specifications, the Jetson ONE has a max pilot weight rating of 95 kg (209 lbs), while the aircraft itself weighs 86 kg (190 lbs). The brushless electric motors produce a max power output of 88 kW which is equivalent to 120 metric hp. Top speed is limited to 102 km/h (63 mph). The battery pack capacity is not yet disclosed, but with an 85 kg (187 lbs) pilot, the aircraft is claimed to offer a flight time of up to 20 minutes.

Now let’s talk about the difficult part, which is its pricing. Jetson is charging US$ 92,000 for a unit with a US$ 22,000 deposit to reserve a build slot. The startup plans to start production by summer 2022 and plans to build only 12 units, which all are claimed to be sold out. However, reservations are open for 2023. The aircraft will be delivered as a partially (50%) assembled kit.

And, as for the legal status, in the U.S. and European markets, the Jetson ONE will fall into the Part 103 (Ultralight) category, where it can be used only for recreational or sports purposes. It is also not allowed to operate over any congested areas of a city, and of course, needs to stay clear of any air traffic routes.
