Honda has revealed a new adventure/sports-tourer motorcycle called ‘NT1100’—based on the Africa Twin. Why another adventure? Well, according to Honda, the NT1100 is for those who seek performance, handling, long-range comfort, and technology but not necessarily the image or physical dimensions of an “adventure” motorcycle. In other words, it’s a “straightforward touring machine” without too much visual drama.
The NT1100 looks simple and elegant as opposed to aggressive and busy looks of the Africa Twin. Key features include a 5-way height and angle adjustable windscreen; 820 mm seat height, cruise control, heated grips, a USB socket, a 12-volt socket, and a 5-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity. Detachable panniers (33L left and 32L right) are also offered as a standard-fit. A premium specification gets you full LED headlights with integrated running lights; self-canceling indicators, Emergency Stop Signals, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen.
Electronic aids include 5 riding modes (3 default, 2 user customizable), 3-level Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), and 3-level Wheelie Control.
Suspension duties are handled by Showa 43 mm upside-down fork at the front with preload adjustability, and a Showa monoshock at the rear with preload adjustability. Braking duties are handled by twin discs measuring 310 mm at the front and a single 256 mm disc at the rear. Dual-channel ABS is standard.
The 17-inch cast aluminium wheels are wrapped with tyres measuring 120/70 at the front and 180/55 at the rear.
The NT1100 is powered by a 1,084 cc parallel-twin engine that pumps out 75 kW (102 metric hp) at 7,500 rpm and 104 Nm (77 lb-ft) of torque at 6,250 rpm. The engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Kerb weight is claimed to be 238 kg (525 lbs) for manual and 248 kg (547 lbs) for DCT variant.
