Longest-range EPA-rated electric vehicle ever?
Lucid Motors had somehow (almost) accurately estimated the Air’s EPA range last month to be 517 miles or 832 km. Well, it has now received the official rating, which is even better, which is 520 miles or about 837 km for the Air Dream Edition Range variant with 19-inch wheels. Compared with the Tesla Model S Long Range, the Lucid Air Dream Edition Range boasts an additional 115 miles (185 km) of official EPA range.
With the optional 21-inch wheels, the range drops significantly, but a 481 mile (774 km) rating is still impressively good. The 829 kW (1,111 bhp) Dream Edition Performance with a 471 mile (758 km) range is not bad either. The 597 kW (800 bhp) Grand Touring also offers a range of up to 516 miles (830 km) with 19-inch wheels, which is pretty close to the Dream Edition Range.
Both the Dream Editions are claimed to be sold out and Lucid is currently accepting orders for the 597 kW (800 bhp) Grand Touring, the 462 kW (620 bhp) Touring and the 358 kW (480 bhp) Pure. Of course, the last two are yet to receive the official EPA rating, but Lucid’s estimations for both are 406 miles (653 km).
“I’m delighted that our Lucid Air Dream Edition Range has been officially accredited with a range of 520 miles by the EPA, a number I believe to be a new record for any EV. Crucially, this landmark has been achieved by Lucid’s world-leading in-house EV technology, not by simply installing an oversize battery pack,” said Peter Rawlinson, CEO & CTO, Lucid Group. “Our race-proven 900V battery and BMS technology, our miniaturized drive units, coupled with our Wunderbox technology endow Lucid Air with ultra-high efficiency, enabling it to travel more miles from less battery energy. The next-generation EV has truly arrived!” added the overjoyed Rawlinson.
