New styling, a cool new feature, and new safety systems.
The Honda BR-V seemed like a pretty good package for the Indian market, offering up to 7 seats, but it got lost in the sea of “Badass” and “Internet Inside” cars. However, the crossover seems to be doing good in the ASEAN markets, as it is still on sale. Which is why the second-gen model made its debut in Indonesia with new styling and more safety systems.
The BR-V now looks like a proper crossover SUV as opposed to MPV-ish looks of the previous model. The front fascia sports an upright stance for those typical SUV looks. That little kink on the rear door is gone, eliminating the aforementioned MPV-ish looks, and at the rear, the taillights might remind you of some BMWs. Exterior features depending on the trim include LED headlights with integrated running lights, LED taillight signatures, auto-folding ORVMs with integrated LED blinkers, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the dashboard design looks pretty similar to that of its platform sibling, the second-gen Amaze. Features include a 7-inch touchscreen with smartphone connectivity, a 4.2-inch MID, rear AC vents, and a power outlet in all three rows. A cool feature of the new BR-V, literally, is the Remote Engine Start function that allows to turn on the air conditioning before entering. As for safety, the new BR-V comes with the Honda Sensing suite of ADAS, which include Lead Car Departure Notification System, Collision Mitigation Brake System, Lane Keeping Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation, and Adaptive Cruise Control. Passive safety includes front and side airbags.
The new BR-V continues with the 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine that pumps out 89 kW (121 metric hp) at 6,600 rpm and a healthy 145 Nm (107 lb-ft) of torque at 4,300 rpm. A 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT drives the front wheels.
