Chevrolet has updated the Silverado for 2022 with the first-ever Silverado ZR2 that boasts a factory-lifted off-road performance. Pricing is yet to be announced, but the refreshed lineup is expected to arrive at dealerships in spring 2022.
Highlights of the first-ever Silverado ZR2 include Multimatic DSSV 40 mm spool-valve dampers which feature separate spool valves to control damping, and three connected chambers for fluid flow; front and rear e-lockers; specific off-road chassis and suspension calibrations, including Terrain Mode, which allows one-pedal rock crawling; specific 33-inch off-road MT tires; a unique front skid plate, and 31.8-degree approach angle.
The refreshed lineup gets three new exterior colors: Dark Ash, Sand Dune and Glacier Blue Metallic. Apparently, the last one was named by some of the most loyal Chevy owners—Chevy Truck Legends. Other highlights of the lineup include animated lighting sequences when approaching, starting or walking away; 12 standard tie-downs, optional power up/down tailgate and optional six-position Multi-Flex tailgate.
The refreshed cabin features a 12.3-inch configurable instrument cluster, a 13.4-inch central touchscreen, authentic open-pore wood trim, standard leather seating surfaces, and stainless steel speaker grilles for the Bose premium audio system. Silverado LT and above feature Google built-in compatibility where the driver can control certain functions by saying “Hey Google” or pressing the ‘push to talk’ button on the steering wheel. Optionals include a Rear Camera Mirror, a Head-Up Display, and of course, the Super Cruise.
Chevy Safety Assist—a suite of 6 standard active safety features, is standard on every trim, which includes Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator, and IntelliBeam auto high beams. A HD Rear Vision Camera and Buckle to Drive are also standard across the lineup.
Moving on to the juicy bits of the story then, the ZR2 is powered by a 6.2L V8 petrol engine that pumps out 313 kW (426 metric hp) at 5,600 rpm and 623 Nm (460 lb-ft) of torque at 4,100 rpm. The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic gearbox.
Other powertrains for the lineup include a 231 kW (314 metric hp) 2.7L 4-cylinder turbo petrol paired with an 8-speed automatic; a 265 kW (360 metric hp) 5.3L V8 petrol paired with a 10-speed automatic; and a 207 kW (281 metric hp) 3.0L straight-six turbo diesel paired with a 10-speed automatic.
