Poor man’s Geländewagen gets refreshed.
Force Motors has launched the new Gurkha with significant updates to styling and features. The off-roader is available in a single variant, priced at INR 13,59,000 (US$ 18,413), ex-showroom, Pan India.
Styling updates include a new front fascia with a bold Gurkha branding on the grille, replacing Force Motors’ logo. And of course, there are new LED headlights with integrated running lights. The side profile appears to have been cleaned up a little, while at the rear, the windscreen has been made to look like it spans the entire width of the vehicle, and the taillights have been positioned vertically. But personally, I prefer the rear-end of the outgoing model. As standard, the SUV rides on 16-inch steel wheels wrapped with 245/70 tyres.
Although still hard, cheap plastics inside, the dashboard looks a lot better than in the outgoing model. Features include a 7-inch central touchscreen, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, 4 speakers, manual AC, power windows, a 12-volt socket, dual USB sockets at the front, and dual USB sockets for the rear occupants. Safety equipment includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, TPMS, front fog lamps, and rear parking sensors. Download the brochure here.
The Gurkha continues to be powered by a Mercedes-sourced 2.6-litre 4-cylinder OM616 diesel engine that pumps out 67 kW (91 metric hp) at 3,200 rpm and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque between 1,400 and 2,400 rpm. The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The front and rear diffs can be manually locked. Force Motors claims a water wading capability of up to 700 mm.
