The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has published July 2021 vehicle retail data, which shows a total growth of just over 34% compared to July 2020 data. The Passenger Vehicles segment, in particular, registered a growth of nearly 63% last month compared to July 2020. Also, Mahindra and Kia continue a fierce battle for 4th place.
The Commercial Vehicles segment continues its triple-digit growth with nearly 166% growth in July 2021 compared to the same period last year. The three-wheeler segment also appears to be doing a great job, thanks to the sudden rise of online retailers. FADA President Vinkesh Gulati had the following to say –
With the entire country now open, July continues to see a robust recovery in auto retails as demand across all categories remains high. The low base effect also continues to play its part. With all categories in green, CV’s continue to see an increase in demand especially in M&HCV segment with the Government rolling out infrastructure projects in many parts of the country. PVs witnesses high demand especially with the buzz around new launches and compact SUV segments. The waiting period due to supply-side constraints have been persisting for quite a few months and is now becoming a deep routed issue for OEMs.
The two-wheeler segment though continues to see positive demand YoY, the rate of recovery remains sluggish as customers at the bottom of the pyramid suffer from poor disposable income and rural markets where COVID cases were high during the second wave.
