Another VW Group brand that recorded the best-ever half-year is Bentley. The British luxury marque retailed a total of 7,199 vehicles worldwide in the first half of 2021, registering a growth of 46% compared to 4,918 vehicles during the same period last year. An operating profit of €178 million was also the highest in Bentley’s 102-year history.
While it is a proven fact that SUVs now take the majority share in a luxury marque’s total sales, that’s not exactly the case with Bentley’s 2021 half-year sales. Although the Bentayga is at the top, the sales between the three models were fairly well-balanced: Bentayga (2,767), Continental GT (2,318) and Flying Spur (2,063). The remaining 51 units probably included Bacalar and other bespoke commissions.
Unsurprisingly, the Chinese regions (including Hong Kong and Macau) consumed lots of Bentleys in the first half of 2021, resulting in a growth of 73% over last year. More specifically, the Flying Spur sales in China alone contributed to the model’s 29% global sales share. Which means, of the total 2,063 Flying Spurs sold globally, China consumed about 598 units.
