In addition to the 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro, Toyota is offering the 2022 Tacoma Trail Edition 4×4 that also claims to be ready for adventure with a lifted suspension. Thanks to taller coil springs, the front of the new Tacoma Trail is lifted by 1.1-inches. The front air dam found on the standard SR5 trim is deleted for better ground clearance.
The air dam removal has also improved the approach angle to 34 degrees. The rear suspension has received some attention too and is lifted 0.5-inches, thanks to a spacer between the rear axle housing and leaf springs to help level the truck and improve departure angle to 23.6 degrees. The breakover angle is also improved to 26.4 degrees.
Based on the SR5 4×4 variant, the Tacoma Trail Edition is upgraded with a standard locking rear differential. This truck also borrows skid plates from the TRD Off-Road trim.
As for the visual stuff, there’s a new Lunar Rock paint option, complemented with heritage-inspired bronze-lettered grille and bronze-finished 16-inch wheels. The wheels are wrapped with new Goodyear all-terrain tires.
The Tacoma Trail Edition comes standard with a 3.5-litre V6 Atkinson-cycle petrol engine that develops 207 kW (282 metric hp) at 6,000 rpm and 359 Nm (265 lb-ft) of torque at 4,600 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox that drives all four wheels.
