Chevrolet is introducing a special edition Corvette Stingray as part of the sports car’s model year 2022 lineup. The Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition commemorates the Corvette C8.R’s inaugural season. Indeed, that name is a mouthful. What is not mouthful, however, is the production number, which is limited to 1,000 units.
In 2020, Corvette Racing swept IMSA’s sports car championship series, taking the Manufacturers, Drivers and Team titles. Corvette Racing’s Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia drove coupe and convertible No. 3 IMSA GTLM Championship Editions across Belle Isle’s MacArthur Bridge and onto the track. Teammate Nick Tandy led on track in a Corvette Stingray convertible, the official pace car of the 2021 Detroit Grand Prix. Corvette Racing driver Tommy Milner followed the group in the No. 4 Corvette C8.R race car.
The 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition is based on the 3LT trim with the Z51 Performance Package. Each car gets Corvette Racing-themed decals. Additional elements depending on the market include Yellow calipers, Black Trident wheels with the “Jake” logo on the center caps, a rear wing in Carbon Flash, exterior mirror caps in Carbon Flash, and Black side rockers. Inside, the Special Edition features a Strike Yellow and Sky Cool Gray theme that mimics the exterior color combo. GT2 seats come standard, while there’s an option for Competition Sport seats. A C8.R Special Edition numbered plaque is also included. Rounding off the package is a custom car cover.
With the Z51 Performance Package, the 6.2L V8 pumps out 369 kW (502 metric hp) and 637 Nm (470 lb-ft) of torque. An 8-speed DCT drives the rear wheels.
The IMSA GTLM Championship Edition is available as a package for $6,595 (excluding tax).
