The Subaru Forester has received a facelift for the Japanese market, scheduled to go on sale from August 2021. Updates include subtle styling tweaks, an improved suspension system, and a new version of the EyeSight system — details below. These updates might also make it to European and North American markets at a later date.
The styling tweaks are mainly on the front fascia, with redesigned headlights, grille and the bumper with new fog light housing. The compact crossover also gets a new set of 18-inch aluminum wheels. Also, Subaru claims to have improved the suspension on all grades, which offers a balance between suppleness and sportiness.
As for the other improvements, the stereo camera system which is used by the ‘EyeSight‘ active safety and driver assistance systems, now has a wider field of view to better recognize the traffic and surroundings.
No other changes. In Japan, the Forester is offered with two boxer engines: a 1.8L 4-cylinder turbocharged unit with 130 kW (177 metric hp) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque, and a 2.0L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated unit with 107 kW (145 metric hp) and 188 Nm (139 lb-ft) of torque. Both engines are coupled with a CVT and an AWD system. European markets get a hybrid powertrain named ‘e-Boxer’, which combines a 2.0L boxer petrol engine and an electric motor with a CVT.
