Same power, but subtle styling. What’s not to like?
The 992-generation 911-based 911 GT3 has now got the Touring package for those who want a similar performance as the GT3, but with understated looks. For the first time, the Touring package can be optioned with a 7-speed PDK at no extra cost. Prices in Germany start at EUR 170,969 (including VAT).
Let’s talk about some visual differences then; the obvious one is at the back of the car, where the gigantic swan-neck wing is substituted with an active spoiler — which according to Porsche, guarantees the necessary downforce at high speeds. Notice the ‘GT3 Touring’ branding on the rear lid grille.
Other differences are rather subtle, including the silver-coloured anodized aluminium trim strips on the side windows, and silver exhaust tips. However, these can be optioned in gloss black. The wheels (20-inch front, 21-inch rear) are also in a silverish colour. The lower section of the front bumper is fully painted in body colour, as opposed to black in the regular GT3.
Inside, the steering wheel rim, gear selector lever, centre console, armrests in the door cards and the door handles are all covered in black leather. The seat centre surfaces are covered with black fabric, and the roofliner is also in black. The door entry sills and the inserts on the dashboard and centre console are made of brushed black aluminium.
A special Chronograph is also available from Porsche Design. The example here features the bezel in Agate Grey Metallic — based on the exterior colour of the car. The dial itself has a matte black finish, while the luminous yellow hands match the colour of the rev counter.
The race-derived 4.0-litre six-cylinder boxer engine pumps out the same 375 kW (510 metric hp) at 8,400 rpm and 470 Nm (347 lb-ft) of torque at 6,100 rpm as the regular GT3. The engine revs up to 9,000 rpm. A 6-speed manual gearbox comes standard, and as mentioned earlier, a 7-speed PDK is available at no extra cost. The official performance figures are identical too.
