Italdesign and Williams Advanced Engineering (WAE) have announced a partnership to explore B2B opportunities in the booming electric vehicle business. Both companies are working on a new modular EV platform that’ll cater to the needs of both newcomers and established OEMs.
The upcoming platform called ‘EVX’ will accommodate all bodystyles, including two-door coupes and convertibles, a 4-door sedan and a crossover as well, with support for wheelbases up to 3,100 mm. As with most modern EV platforms today, the battery pack is mounted lower on the floor but is housed in a carbon fibre casing that becomes part of the chassis structure itself. Watch the video below to understand better.
The companies claim the new platform to be capable of delivering up to 1,000 kW (1,360 metric hp) of power and the modular design enables the battery pack to be expanded up to 160 kWh for a potential 1,000 km (621 mi) vehicle range. Of course, customers can choose from rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations.
