Amidst the electrification tsunami, it is refreshing to see an old school, ICE-powered car with a manual gearbox and classic looks. It’s an ironic déjà vu because it’s the same feeling when you read about or saw an electric vehicle for the first time, about two decades ago; you probably wiped the carbon deposits off your glasses to see the vehicle better. Either way, you gotta appreciate some of these boutique creations.
UK-based GTO Engineering, which specializes in restoring classic Ferraris, has revealed the ‘Squalo’, which apparently is a recreation or a modern interpretation of a Ferrari 250 GTO. It was originally named ‘Moderna’, which I think would’ve been perfect. The Squalo is not a restoration job; there’s no donor car here. The company claims to have developed and built the car “from the ground up”. While the silhouette fairly matches the original GTO, there are some bespoke touches such as a prominent double-bubble roof and a curvy ass. Also, notice the vents/louvers next to wheel arches.
The Squalo will be powered by a hand-built 4.0L quad-cam V12 engine paired with a bespoke manual gearbox. GTO is targeting a sub-1,000 kg (2,205 lbs) curb weight.
