BMW India has launched the entry-level petrol variant of the 2 Series lineup in the country, priced at INR 37,90,000 (introductory), ex-showroom, Pan India. Compared to the 220i M Sport that was launched in January this year, the 220i Sport loses the M bits, obviously, and also some onboard technology.
Speaking of which, it gets the Live Cockpit Plus with an 8.8-inch central display as opposed to Live Cockpit Professional in the M Sport which offers a 10.25-inch central display and a 10.25-inch driver display. Other lost features include gesture control, wireless smartphone charging, and a 10-speaker audio system. However, the entry-level model still packs a decent amount of kit, including LED headlights, a panoramic glass roof, 2-zone climate control, a 6-speaker audio system, and safety equipment such as 6 airbags, Dynamic Stability Control, TPMS and so on. Mechanically, the 220i Sport is the same as the 220i M Sport. The 2.0-litre (1,998 cc) 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine develops 141 kW (192 metric hp) at 5,000 rpm and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) of torque between 1,350-4,600 rpm. An 8-speed automatic gearbox drives the front wheels.
