Cupra is celebrating its 3rd anniversary with a hot version of Formentor called Formentor VZ5, limited to 7,000 units. It gets visual upgrades over the “regular” Formentor and an in-line 5-cylinder TSI borrowed from Audi.
The regular Formentor already looks hot, so the VZ5 doesn’t need to work very hard to look more sporty. However, it ups the oomph factor with carbon fibre front lip spoiler, carbon fibre rear diffuser, Copper-accented quad tailpipes, badges in Black Chrome, Taiga Grey exterior color with Sport Black Matt contrast elements, and 20-inch machined alloy wheels with Copper accents. Besides Grey, the hot SUV will also be available in Midnight Black, Magnetic Tech Matt and Petrol Blue Matt finishes. The massive 18-inch discs are gripped with 6-piston ‘Akebono’ Copper-colored calipers.
Compared to the 310 hp Formentor VZ, the VZ5 sits 10 mm lower. The hot-crossover also gets Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) with 15 levels of damping adjustment.
The cabin features brushed dark Aluminum and Copper accents, and CUPBucket seats — available either in Petrol Blue or Black leather. Also available are Brown Nappa leather seats with Copper contrast stitching that matches with the exterior Taiga Grey color. Other features include a digital driver display and a 12-inch central touchscreen.
The 2.5-litre 5-cylinder TSI engine pumps out 287 kW (390 metric hp) between 5,700 rpm and 7,000 rpm, while the peak torque of 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) is available from 2,250 rpm. A 7-speed DSG drives all four wheels (4Drive AWD system). Cupra claims the Formentor VZ5 can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.2 seconds and delivers a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph), should such things interest you.
