Audi has upgraded its plug-in hybrid models of Q5, A6, and A7 Sportback with a bigger battery pack and therefore more EV range. The A6 Avant is now also available as a 50 TFSI e quattro, priced at €61,790 in Germany.

The models now get a 17.9 kWh (14.4 kWh usable) lithium-ion battery pack as opposed to the previous gross capacity of 14.1 kWh. As a result, the A6 50 TFSI e for example, is now claimed to offer up to 91 km (56.5 mi) pure-electric range as per NEDC. Audi says that the A6 Avant 50 TFSI e quattro is particularly attractive for commuters and fleet operators; the variant offers 220 kW (299 metric hp) of combined output and a max torque of 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) as opposed to 367 metric hp and 500 Nm (368.8 lb-ft) in the A6 Avant 55 TFSI e quattro.

Also, there’s a new feature. Besides “EV”, “Auto” and “Hold” modes, there’s a new one called “Charge”, which allows the battery to be charged by the combustion engine while driving if necessary, to be used later in environmental zones, for example.

The Q5, A6 Sedan and A7 Sportback models are available in two output variants as before: as a 55 TFSI e with a system output of 367 metric hp and as a 50 TFSI e with 299 metric hp. Both variants combine a 2.0L TFSI engine with an electric motor that is integrated into the 7-speed S tronic gearbox.
