Renault has unveiled the near-production version of the Kiger concept that we saw in November 2020. The company hasn’t yet shared its launch date, but it’ll go on sale first in India, followed by other markets.

The Kiger is Renault’s version of the Nissan Magnite which is well received by the buyers here, and Renault is hoping to replicate the magic with its version. The Kiger looks pretty good, but in most angles, it does look like a large version of the Kwid hatchback rather than an SUV. Its muscular rear haunches, semi-blacked-out c-pillars, the rear spoiler, and the overall rear section in general, reminds me of the Nissan Juke. The exterior of the car is equipped with LED headlights, LED taillight signatures and 16-inch Diamond-cut alloy wheels.

The Kiger is a sub-4 metre crossover as you might know. It measures 3,991 mm long, 1,750 mm wide (excluding mirrors) and 1,600 mm tall (including roof rails). It has a wheelbase of 2,500 mm and the ground clearance is at 205 mm. Boot space is claimed to be 405-litres. Apparently, the roof rails can bear 50 kg (110 lbs) load.

The cabin manages to look different from its Japanese cousin and tries to appear a bit more premium. Features include a 7-inch TFT driver display, an 8-inch central touchscreen, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, optional wireless charging pad, 8 speakers, Arkamys 3D Sound, and a total of 29.1-litres of cabin storage including a 10.5-litre glove box. Notice a mode selector knob on the centre console.

As for safety and assistance, the Kiger will offer up to 4 airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and a rearview camera.

Powertrains
Moving on to the powertrains section, as you might have guessed, the Kiger borrows all of ’em from its Japanese cousin. There’s a 1.0-litre (999 cc) 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with 53 kW (72 metric hp) and 96 Nm (71 lb-ft) of torque, and can be paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. Do note that the Magnite currently doesn’t offer the AMT option.

For those who want a bit more power, Renault will offer a 1.0-litre (999 cc) 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 74 kW (100 metric hp) and 160 Nm (118 lb-ft) of torque; the engine can be paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT. The torque output for the CVT variants is expected to be limited to 152 Nm (112 lb-ft).
