Taycan — 1:33.88; Panamera Turbo S — 1:31.51
The 2021 Porsche Panamera Turbo S has lapped the Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in 1:31.51 minutes, beating the production-spec Taycan’s last year’s lap time by 0:2.37 seconds. Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) enlisted the same racing driver Leh Keen to pilot the Panamera on the 4 km race track in Braselton, Georgia.
The Panamera Turbo S was fitted with the optional, newly-developed road-legal Michelin Pilot Sport cup 2 ND0 ultra-high performance tyres, measuring 275/35 ZR 21 103Y XL at the front and 325/30 ZR 21 108Y XL at the rear. The tyre was tuned at the Nürburgring specifically for the Panamera, Porsche said.
The 2021 Panamera Turbo S offers 80 metric hp (59 kW) and 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) more than its predecessor, bringing the total to 630 metric hp (463 kW) and 820 Nm (605 lb-ft) of torque. Compared to the Taycan Turbo S that lapped the same track in December 2020, the Panamera Turbo S has 131 metric hp and 230 Nm less. However, it’s worth noting that the Taycan Turbo S with Performance Battery Plus weighs 2,130 kg/4,696 lbs (unladen), while the Panamera Turbo S weighs 2,080 kg/4,586 lbs (unladen), which could explain the latter’s faster lap time.
It is expected to arrive at U.S. dealerships this spring. Standard equipment includes Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+), rear-axle steering and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport roll-stabilization system (PDCC Sport).
