Toyota is testing the e-Palette autonomous carriages that were revealed as a concept in early 2018. The testing is currently going on at a controlled facility in Toyota City, Japan, and the company wants to deploy these vehicles at the upcoming Woven City.
Unlike the Zoox robotaxi we saw recently, these e-Palettes are designed not only to transport humans but also to pickup/deliver packages and can be used as a mobile shop as well. These can be sold to fleet operators who’ll provide autonomous mobility as a service (Autono-MaaS), for example.
In the above video, Toyota is showcasing a couple of mockups such as an apparel shop and a mobile locker.
