According to several reports, Mahindra is liquidating the Pininfarina Engineering — a spin-off that was created from Pininfarina’s technical centre based in Turin, about two years ago. Lack of orders resulting from the economic slowdown due to the ongoing pandemic is said to be the reason for this. More than 100 employees are at risk of losing their jobs.

Reportedly, Pininfarina lost a couple of orders due to the pandemic; one from Hong Kong and another from Iran. While the Design centre offered, well, design services, the Engineering centre offered services on the technical side of things. In 2019, Pininfarina revealed the Battista hypercar under the Automobili Pininfarina brand.
Mahindra could relocate some of the employees to the parent company; the trade union is expecting a solution by January 15, 2021.
