Ducati has revealed the 2021 Monster with a 937 cc engine and a lighter frame, replacing the Monster 821. There’ll also be a Plus variant that gets a windscreen/visor and a passenger seat cover.
The Monster Plus is also the one that carries a bit more oomph factor with its color combinations: Ducati Red with black wheels, Aviator Grey with red wheels, and Dark Stealth with black wheels.
The new Monster’s aluminium frame (front section) is derived from the Panigale V4, and is lighter, contributing to the motorcycle’s 166 kg (366 lbs) dry weight. The rear subframe is made of GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer).
Features list includes full-LED lighting, a 4.3-inch TFT screen, adjustable ABS Cornering (3 levels), adjustable Ducati Traction Control and Ducati Wheelie Control, Riding Modes (Sport, Touring and Urban), DQS up/down, and Launch Control.
Suspension duties are handled by a 43 mm upside-down fork at the front and an adjustable monoshock at the rear. Front brake discs measure 320 mm, gripped by Brembo M4-32 4-piston monobloc calipers, while at the rear, there’s a single 245 mm disc gripped by a Brembo caliper. As mentioned, there aren’t many differences between the base and the Plus besides a flyscreen and a passenger seat cover for the latter.
The standard seat is 820 mm from the ground. However, there are a couple of lowered seat options that reduce the height up to 775 mm.
The 937 cc twin-cylinder Testastretta 11° engine is made of aluminium and is 4.5 kg (10 lbs) lighter than the 821, according to Ducati. It develops a maximum power of 81.6 kW (111 metric hp) at 9,250 rpm and 93 Nm (69 lb-ft) of torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
The new Monster is already on sale in Europe, with prices starting at £10,295 for the standard Monster and £10,545 for the Monster+, in the UK.
