Bodyshell integrity: unstable; footwell area: unstable
After the Kia Seltos, the second India-spec car that scored disappointing marks in Global NCAP crash tests is the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, which scored 2 stars in both the adult and child occupant category.
The tested car was equipped with dual front airbags, 4-channel ABS, and front seatbelt pretensioners.
Adult Occupant
In the adult occupant category, the report said that the protection offered to the driver and passenger head and neck was good. The driver chest showed weak protection while the passenger chest showed adequate protection. The driver and passenger’s knees showed marginal protection as they could impact with dangerous structures behind the dashboard supported by the Tranfascia tube. The driver’s tibias showed marginal to adequate protection and passenger’s tibias showed adequate protection.
However, the bodyshell integrity was rated as unstable and it was not capable of withstanding further loadings. The footwell area was rated as unstable too.
Child Occupant
As for the child occupant category, the report said that the child seat for a 3-year-old was installed FWF with the adult seatbelt and it was not able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact while offering poor protection to the head and fair protection to the chest. The car does not offer 3 point belts in all seating positions and it does not offer ISOFIX anchorages either, which resulted in its low ranking. Download the full report here.
