Spiritual successor to Infiniti FX
Infiniti has unveiled the QX55 via a streaming concert from Los Angeles, featuring the American singer Aloe Blacc. The new coupe-SUV has been confirmed to go on sale in the U.S. and Canada in spring 2021.
The all-new Infiniti QX55 is classy. It just looks sleek, and it feels like it’s quality. Ultimately, the only thing I ever want to engage with is quality. From the musicians that I pick, to the food that I eat, to the car that I drive. – Blacc
According to Infiniti, the QX55 is a spiritual successor to the Infiniti FX. As for the styling, I think it looks stunning, especially from three-quarter angles, thanks to the red paint with black elements in this example. The contemporary styling has been combined with Japanese tradition, such as the grille featuring origami-inspired mesh pattern. The side profile looks fairly clean, while at the rear, there are “piano key” taillights with 45 separate LEDs in a single housing.
Also, notice the valley in the roof that extends till the spoiler, similar to the one on the QX60 Monograph. The Infiniti logo at the rear doubles as a liftgate release.
LED headlights come standard. Also standard are 20-inch wheels. As for the dimensions, the QX55 has an overall length of 4,732 mm (186.3-inches), width of 1,902 mm (74.9-inches) and height of 1,620 mm (63.8-inches). It boasts a wheelbase of 2,799 mm (110.2-inches).
Inside, the seats can be upholstered with leatherette, leather, or semi-aniline leather. The rear seats can slide for increased legroom or more cargo space, depending on what is needed. Also, notice that the centre of the dashboard features two screens, with the upper screen measuring 8-inch and the lower one 7-inch. Other features include wireless Apple CarPlay compatibility, USB inputs, and an optional 16-speaker Bose audio system.
Safety and driver assistance features would include airbags, Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, ProPILOT Assist, Intelligent Cruise Control and so on. Download the specifications sheet for North America here.
Powering the QX55 in America is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (KR20DDET) that develops 200 kW (272 metric hp) at 5,600 rpm and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque between 4,400-4,800 rpm. A CVT drives all four wheels (AWD).
