Nissan has revealed an emergency response vehicle concept called ‘RE-LEAF’, based on the production Leaf EV. The company says that the Re-Leaf can be driven into the centre of a disaster zone and provide a fully mobile power supply to aid the relief operations. The integrated energy management system can run medical, communications, lighting, heating and other life-supporting equipment.
In addition to a special livery, the Re-Leaf is jacked up with BF Goodrich Baja all-terrain tyres wrapped around 17-inch Compomotive wheels. Naturally, the front and rear tracks are wider (front: 90 mm, rear: 130 mm), and the ground clearance is at 225 mm. A roof-mounted LED light bar flashes amber light to alert other road users.
Once the Re-Leaf arrives at the disaster zone, a bespoke pull-out desk extends from the trunk with a 32-inch LED screen creating an operational hub to run communications from and manage the recovery process. The Re-Leaf’s external power sockets can power equipment such as an electric jackhammer, pressure ventilation fan, 10-litre soup kettle, a medical ventilator and 100-watt LED floodlight.
The rear seats have been removed and the floor is leveled in order to make space for the essential equipment. A custom bulkhead cage also separates the front seats from the cargo area.
