If you remember, Mercedes-Benz and Bosch demonstrated the Automated Valet Parking (AVP) technology in 2017. Well, there’s an update on that. The German giants have teamed up with Apcoa — a parking lot operator, to provide SAE Level 4 AVP service at Stuttgart airport’s P6 parking lot. Exactly when the service will start is yet to be announced, but “in the future”, a smartphone command will tell the cars where to park in the aforementioned lot, the company said.
As demonstrated in 2017, Bosch is using camera-based infrastructure to detect lanes and obstacles. The cars equipped with Mercedes-Benz’s Intelligent Park Pilot — the new S-Class for example, will communicate with Bosch infrastructure and Apcoa Flow — the parking operator’s digital platform to park themselves at a designated slot. P6 will initially offer two spaces for self-parking vehicles and more will be added as the demand increases.
