Ferrari is recalling 1,063 units of 812 Superfast in North America over the possibility that the rear window “could fully detach from the vehicle”, increasing the risk of a crash. The NHTSA document suggests that there might be a problem with the bonding process, or the adhesive itself. It is unclear whether the recall is referring to the rear windscreen or the rear quarter window on the side; I’m guessing it’s the former.
The suspected vehicles were manufactured between 2018-2020. Ferrari will notify the owners, and the dealers will replace the rear window, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin from December 5, 2020. Owners may also contact Ferrari customer service at 1-201-816-2668. Ferrari’s number for this recall is 73.
The first instance of the glass coming off occurred in Germany on May 11th 2020, followed by two more cases, both again in Germany, occurring on May 21st 2020. After an investigation involving the supplier Saint-Gobain, Ferrari determined that “the defect was potentially caused by an error in the supplier’s production concerning a non-cleaned glass bonding area on the bodywork”. Which means, Ferrari might be recalling the car in other markets as well.
