Donkervoort has revealed a track-only version of the D8 GTO-JD70 — the special edition car that celebrated its founder’s 70th birthday. While it looks visually similar to the D8 GTO-JD70, the changes are mostly mechanical.
To begin with, the forged alloy wheels (17-inch front, 18-inch at the rear) are wrapped with Nankang slicks. As on the regular car, the carbon fibre wheels remain optional. One of the big changes is the addition of the Bosch M5 Clubsport ABS system with 12 stages of adjustment.
The braking system carries over the JD70’s Tarox hardware (310 mm front, 285 mm rear). As for the suspension system, the JD70 R gets 4-way adjustable (3-way on the standard JD70) Intrax dampers that are 20% stiffer. The adjustable anti-roll bars are stiffer too. The track car rides 20 mm lower.
The cockpit gets carbon race seats with fire-resistant upholstery, FIA homologated 6-point racing harness, and a digital color display. Safety systems include tyre pressure and temperature monitoring.
The options list includes an FIA-homologated bladder-style fuel tank, Bilster Berg roll cage, and a rearview camera.
The Audi-sourced 2.5-litre in-line 5-cylinder TFSI motor develops the same 421 metric hp (310 kW) and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. However, the gearbox here is a 6-speed sequential. While the track car weighs 725 kg (1,598 lbs) — 45 kg (99 lbs) more than the regular JD70, it is still claimed to sprint from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 280 km/h (174 mph). The JD70 R carries a price tag of €198,000, excluding tax.
