Ares Design reveals a stunning 710 hp barchetta

Ares-S1-Project-Spyder

Italy’s Ares Design has revealed a Spyder version of its S1 Project that was revealed last month. As with its Coupe sibling, the Spyder too is limited to 24 units, with production expected to start in 2021.

The Spyder ditches the Koenigsegg-like wrap-around windscreen for a couple of wind deflectors that create a virtual canopy. With the absence of a traditional windscreen, we can see the bonnet flowing seamlessly into the cockpit and forming a central tunnel, before flowing between the rear buttress. As with its Coupe sibling, the Spyder sports some exposed carbon-fibre bits, such as the headlight housing, the front splitter, fender louvres, side skirts, and the rear spoiler as well.

The cockpit looks fairly identical to that of the Coupe, except for the color combination in this example. It features the same quilted pattern on the seats and on door cards; and exposed carbon-fibre elements such as on the central console, the steering wheel, shift paddles, and the instrument cluster housing. The passenger gets their own display, neatly integrated within the vents.

As with its Coupe sibling, the Spyder too is powered by a naturally aspirated V8 powerplant (rumoured to be a 6.2L) that revs up to 8,800 rpm. An Ares Design-tuned ECU and a bespoke exhaust system are claimed to deliver 522 kW (710 metric hp). Ares also claims a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of 2.7 seconds. An 8-speed DCT drives the rear wheels.

“Underpinned by double wishbone suspension, forged aluminium axles and adaptive Magnetic Ride Control, the S1 Project will deliver a potent yet uncomplicated drive for its owners,” Ares had said for the Coupe, which should be the same for the Spyder as well.
