Lucid Motors has revealed the production version of the Air 4-door electric sedan and has also announced that it would start delivering in the spring of 2021. The startup has also revealed the updated prices which start at under US$ 80,000 — a significant increase compared to the previously announced (2017) base price of US$ 60,000.

As we can see in the official price list above, Lucid is planning to ship the Air Dream Edition first, followed by the Air Grand Touring (mid 2021) and Air Touring (late 2021). The base model deliveries will happen in 2022.

The Air Dream Edition will be produced in limited numbers and costs a whopping US$ 169,000 before the Federal Tax Credit. It will be available in Stellar White, Infinite Black, or a Dream Edition-exclusive Eureka Gold exterior finish. It also gets unique 21-inch AeroDream wheels.

For the interior, the Dream Edition gets a “Santa Monica” theme that includes Nappa grain Bridge of Weir leather throughout and silvered Eucalyptus wood accents.

Other than that, the exterior of the production Lucid Air looks exactly the same as the prototype that was revealed back in December 2016, which means the older photos are still valid. Its fluidic lines, the ‘Intelligent Micro Lens Array’ headlights, a full-width, single-form taillight, and the wheel design, are all the same. The Air boasts a drag co-efficient of 0.21 Cd.

What has changed, however, is the interior. It doesn’t look concept-ish anymore, especially when you look at the revised steering wheel, the dashboard and the seats. Unlike what we’ve seen previously, the rear appears to get only the bench seat as standard; the optional ‘Executive Seat’ will be available from 2022. The curved display has also taken its production form; it now “floats” above the dashboard. In case you’re wondering, it’s a 34-inch 5K display.

The cabin appears to be well thought out in terms of practicality. The central display — dubbed as ‘Pilot Panel’, can be stowed away when not needed.

The features list also includes Alexa Voice integration and up to Level 3 ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) capabilities. The vehicle comes with 32 sensors comprised of the latest camera, radar and ultrasonic sensors, as well as a long-range, high-resolution LIDAR housed at the front of the car. Also included in this multimodal sensor suite is an in-car driver monitoring system.

Business end
Moving on to the business end of the story, the range-topping Dream Edition will offer up to 1,080 hp, drawing juice from a 113 kWh extended-range battery pack. It claims an estimated EPA range of up to 503 miles (809 km) with 19-inch wheels. The Air Grand Touring claims the longest range of up to 517 miles (832 km), also with 19-inch wheels.

Lucid claims up to 300 miles (483 km) of range with 20 minutes of DC fast charging.

The startup plans to sell the car initially in North America (US and Canada), followed by Europe and the Middle East at a later date. A US$ 1,000 is the refundable deposit; the limited Dream Edition will ask a US$ 7,500 refundable deposit. Production will happen at the Lucid Motors factory in Casa Grande, Arizona.
