The U.S.-spec Hyundai Venue has earned the 2020 Top Safety Pick award from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), for the model equipped with LED projector headlights. The Venue has already passed IIHS’ 6 crashworthiness evaluations with G (Good) rating, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests.
In the U.S. market, the Venue gets LED headlights as standard in the range-topping ‘Denim’ trim. IIHS has rated these headlights as A (Acceptable). The base headlights — halogen projectors — are rated M (Marginal) “due to inadequate illumination on curves”. The marginal headlight rating prevents the Venue from qualifying for the higher-tier Top Safety Pick+ award, IIHS said.
The tiny crossover became very popular in India soon after its launch in May 2019. The top-spec trims settle only for halogen projectors in the country.
