The Ateca is Seat’s one of the most successful products selling over 300,000 units since its introduction in 2016. Which is why it has received some styling and technology updates in addition to a new ‘Xperience’ trim.
The styling has been sharpened-up with a new front fascia while retaining the brand’s design language. There are new full-LED headlights, revised grille and restyled front bumper. The side profile remains largely unchanged and so is the rear-end except for a new bumper with fake exhaust inserts.
That’s right. Those “exhaust tips” you see on either end of the rear are fake. There’s nothing coming out of them. It is unclear if they are featured throughout the lineup or only on certain trims. The official press release mentions that the FR trim gets “matt finish framed simulated exhausts”. However, those fake inserts house parking sensors, which I think is a good use of space. The taillights are full-LEDs too and feature dynamic turn signals.
The styling updates have resulted in Ateca growing in length to 4,381 mm (+18 mm), while its width (1,841 mm) and height (1,615 mm) remains the same.
There are 14 alloy wheels to choose from between 16- and 19-inches, and the exterior color palette has 10 choices including a new ‘Dark Camouflage’ paint.
The new Xperience trim sports an off-road look with black front & rear bumpers, wheel arches, side mouldings, and skid plate-like front & rear mouldings in Aluminium look.
The FR trim gets highlights in Cosmo Grey Matt including a new grille design, front & rear bumper mouldings, mirror caps and side mouldings.
The updated interior features an optional 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit, 8.25- or 9.2-inch infotainment system, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay compatibility, a built-in eSIM for connectivity, heated steering wheel, and 8-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory.
The SUV also gets an all-weather windscreen with ClimaCoat coating. The technology is claimed to defrost the windscreen within 2-3 minutes.
Safety and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) include Pre-Crash Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Travel Assist, Emergency Assist, Side Assist and Exit Assist.
Powertrains
The new Ateca will offer four petrol and four diesel options.
Petrol options:
- 1.0L TSI with 81 kW (110 hp) and 6-speed manual gearbox
- 1.5L TSI with 110 kW (150 hp) and 6-speed manual gearbox
- 1.5L TSI with 110 kW (150 hp) and DSG gearbox
- 2.0L TSI with 140 kW (190 hp), DSG gearbox and 4Drive AWD system
Diesel options:
- 2.0L TDI with 85 kW (116 hp) and 6-speed manual gearbox
- 2.0L TDI with 110 kW (150 hp) and 6-speed manual gearbox
- 2.0L TDI with 110 kW (150 hp) and DSG gearbox
- 2.0L TDI with 110 kW (150 hp), DSG gearbox and 4Drive AWD system
As the above list would suggest, the 1.6L TDI has been replaced with another 2.0L option. The 2.0L TDI features the brand’s twin dosing system, meaning, dual AdBlue injectors to reduce NOx emissions. The 1.5L petrol engine features Active Cylinder Management, which shuts down two cylinders in order to save fuel depending on the driving conditions.
