While we all know that the year 2020 has NOT been a good one for most humans around the globe for obvious reasons, for some, it has really been a terrible one. On the very first day of this year, i.e., the 1st Jan 2020, I saw a family that had just taken the delivery of a brand new car, dealing with the police because both the left and right sides of their brand new car had got scraped and damaged somehow (the occupants were physically unhurt, thankfully). I didn’t understand how that happened, but there was a city bus parked right in front of their car while they were having a conversation with the police.
Now, a new one has been discovered. This incident/accident appears to have taken place somewhere in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. In the video, we can see that the brand new Volkswagen Polo has already been handed over to its new owner and the masked staff are standing nearby as the owner prepares to drive off.
Notice when the owner starts the car and gives it a little gas, the car coughs (read jerks) a couple of times before gracefully moving out of its parked position. The innocent staff applauds anyway as they’re happy to be delivering cars again. But then, in the blink of an eye, the driver hits another Polo parked near the gate, loses control of the vehicle, and rams into the semi-opened gate toppling the car. All this happens even before anyone over there could comprehend what the f went wrong.
The driver appears to be inexperienced and when you combine that with overwhelming excitement of taking delivery of a new car, you can probably figure out what might have gone wrong. As for the toppling, I’m sure it has to do with some physics. Watch carefully and you’ll notice that the gate tilts upon impact and acts as a ramp.
To summarize, the inexperienced driver who possibly didn’t understand the steering ratio, applied too much steering input to make a right turn and ended up hitting another Polo, and to correct that mistake, he applies another excessive left steering which causes the vehicle to topple upon impacting a casually placed gate.
Let’s hope the occupants are safe and out of danger.
And for those who are wondering, in India, it’s the 5th generation Polo that is still on sale. The 6th gen model never made it to the country.
