Subaru has updated the Crosstrek for the 2021 model year in the U.S. market with a new ‘Sport’ trim and a powerful 2.5L Boxer engine. The 2021 Crosstrek features a revised styling too, which includes redesigned front bumper and a redesigned front grille with details specific to each trim. The photos here feature Sport and Limited trims.
The new Sport trim gets some unique exterior styling bits such as specific wheel arch moldings, 17-inch alloy wheels with dark gray finish, and gunmetal finish for the front grille, side mirrors and badges.
The Sport trim is available in 7 exterior colors including new Plasma Yellow Pearl and Horizon Blue Pearl.
Inside, the Sport trim gets an exclusive StarTex upholstery with yellow stitching. The StarTex upholstery is claimed to be a lightweight, urethane material manufactured without polyvinyl chloride (PVC), phthalate or chlorine.
The yellow contrast stitching can also be found throughout the cabin including on the floormats. The backing of the floormats is made from 25% recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET), Subaru said. The Sport trim is further distinguished with gunmetal and carbon fibre-like accents and yellow rings in the instrument cluster.
The Limited trim continues to be the range-topping model and features exclusive 18-inch machine-finished alloy wheels in black and body-colored exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals. It also gets standard LED Steering Responsive Headlights with Automatic Height Adjustment Control, LED DRLs, and LED fog lights.
Inside, the Limited trim features black or gray leather with orange stitching on the seats, door armrests and instrument panel; 6-way power driver’s seat, and Starlink 8.0-inch Multimedia Plus system.
Options include a Power Moonroof, Starlink 8.0-inch Multimedia with Navigation powered by TomTom, and Harman Kardon premium audio system.
Safety and driver assistance features on the Limited trim include High Beam Assist, Reverse Automatic Braking, Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.
All 2021 Crosstrek trims include 7 airbags: driver and front passenger frontal airbags, side curtain airbags and side pelvis/torso airbags, as well as a driver’s knee airbag.
Debuted on the 2019 Forester, the 2.5-litre 4-cylinder Boxer engine in the 2021 Crosstrek Sport and Limited produces the same 182 hp and 176 lb-ft (239 Nm) of torque, and is paired with a CVT.
The 2021 Crosstrek Base and Premium trims continue to use a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder Boxer engine with 152 hp and 145 lb-ft (196 Nm) of torque, and can be paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT.
The new Crosstrek Sport also gets X-Mode with Hill Descent Control with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud selectable settings to optimize AWD performance for difficult weather or road conditions.
The Crosstrek Hybrid continues as is. It combines a 2.0L Boxer engine and an electric motor for a system output of 148 hp.
