The refreshed E-Class lineup is now joined by the range-topping AMG variants, which are, of course, the E 63 4Matic+ Saloon and E 63 4Matic+ Estate.

The visual drama is pretty similar to the E 53 variants with sporty bumpers and Panamericana grille. The front splitter is kept in body color in the base E 63 while the S variants will have that in Silver Shadow. The optional AMG Night Package paints them in high-gloss black and there’s also an option of AMG Exterior Carbon-Fibre Package I.

Both Saloon and Estate models get 90 mm trapezoidal twin tailpipes at the rear, which are chrome-plated in the base model and titanium matt in the S variants.

The base model rides on aerodynamically optimized 19-inch 10-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in a choice of either matt black or high-gloss black or in high-gloss tantalum grey. The S variants ride on 20-inch 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, also aerodynamically optimized and with a wider aero rim edge, painted in a choice of matt black or high-gloss tantalum grey.

There are new body colors to choose from: graphite grey metallic, high-tech silver metallic and brilliant blue magno; the latter was previously reserved for the AMG GT family.

Braking duties are handled by discs measuring 360 x 36 mm with 6-piston fixed calipers at the front, and 360 x 26 mm with single-piston floating calipers on the rear axle. The S variants get larger discs on the front axle measuring 390 x 36 mm. Buyers can go for the optional AMG Carbon Ceramic brake system with discs measuring 402 x 39 mm on the front axle and 360 x 32 mm on the rear axle.

Both Saloon and Estate models also get AMG Ride Control+ suspension with multi-chamber air suspension and adaptive adjustable damping ADS+ (Adaptive Damping System). The Adaptive Damping System offers 3 modes to choose from: Comfort, Sport and Sport+.

Technologies inside include the updated MBUX infotainment system with screens measuring 10.25-inches in the base model. The S variants get larger 12.25-inch screens as standard.

The 4.0-litre (3,982 cc) V8 biturbo motor pumps out 420 kW (571 hp) between 5750 and 6500 rpm and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque between 2250 and 5000 rpm in the base models. For the S variants, the tuning is 450 kW (612 hp) between 5750 and 6500 rpm and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque between 2500 and 4500 rpm. The engine is paired with an AMG Speedshift 9G automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels via 4Matic+ AWD system.

The S variants get dynamic engine mounts that adapt their stiffness to the driving conditions.

The E 63 S 4Matic+ Saloon is claimed to sprint from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph). The E 63 S 4Matic+ Estate takes 3.5 seconds for a 0-100 km/h run and can do a top speed of 290 km/h (180 mph), also electronically limited.

Both body styles also get an electronically regulated rear-axle locking differential.
