The 5th generation Audi A6 got its plug-in hybrid sibling last year. Now, its time for the Avant model to plug-in and see how far it can go on EV mode alone. As the title would suggest, it is claimed to go 51 km, but will talk about that in a minute.

The powertrain is a combination of a 2.0L TFSI engine and an electric motor. The ICE puts out 185 kW (252 hp) and 370 Nm (272.9 lb-ft) of torque, while the e-motor develops 105 kW (143 hp) and a peak torque of 350 Nm (258.1 lb-ft). Together with a separating clutch, it is integrated into a 7-speed S tronic transmission, which transfers the drive torque to all four wheels.

The total system output and system torque are claimed to be 270 kW (367 hp) and 500 Nm (368.8 lb-ft), respectively; same as the Sedan.

Drivers can choose between three drive modes: EV, Hybrid and Hold; the latter is to conserve the electrical energy to be used at any time. The all-electric range is claimed to be 51 km (31.7 mi) in the WLTP cycle, which is 2 km less than the Sedan. However, the lithium-ion battery pack is of the same 14.1 kWh capacity, positioned at the rear of the car.

The luggage capacity is claimed to be 405 liters (14.3 cu ft) as standard – without a step in the loading floor. This can be increased to 1,535 liters (54.2 cu ft) with the rear seat backrest folded down.

With the standard mode 3 cable, owners can charge the plug-in hybrid at public charging terminals with an output of up to 7.4 kW, which is claimed to take around 2.5 hours.

The A6 Avant PHEV is claimed to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 5.7 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155.3 mph). In EV mode, the top speed is 135 km/h (83.9 mph).

Features include Matrix LED headlights, sport seats, four-zone auto AC, Audi virtual cockpit, sport suspension, 19-inch wheels, and red brake calipers.

Prices for the A6 Avant 55 TFSI e quattro starts at €71,940. The car is eligible for a 50% company car tax reduction in Germany.
