Bentley’s Mulliner division has created a new Continental GT Convertible with finer details. It’ll make its public debut at the 2020 Geneva International Motor Show.
To begin with, there’s a new ‘Double Diamond’ front grille which is further complemented by bespoke Mulliner-branded side vents that continue the silver on black diamond theme. The inspiration for the new Double Diamond design comes from Bentley’s Diamond-in-Diamond interior quilting concept, which adorns all four seats, the door casings, rear quarters and now for the first time, the tonneau cover too.
The Diamond-in-Diamond interior quilting includes contrast stitching in two complementary colors. It apparently takes almost 400,000 stitches to deliver this quilting across the cabin of the car, with each diamond containing exactly 712 individual stitches – each one precisely aligned to point to the centre of the diamond it creates.
Developing the embroidery process to deliver this process alone took 18 months, Bentley said. A total of 8 custom-made three-color combinations are offered for the interior.
The new Continental GT Mulliner Convertible rides on a new 22-inch 10-spoke painted & polished wheels with floating, self-leveling wheel badges that remain upright as the wheel rotates.
Further details include a diamond milled technical finish on the centre console, complemented by a new and exclusive brushed silver Breitling timepiece.
The car also features mood lighting comprising of 7 different themes, illuminated Mulliner tread plates, LED welcome lamps that project the Bentley wings onto the ground from the door mirrors, and 2,200-watt Naim audio system.
The Continental GT Mulliner Convertible will be available with V8 or W12 powertrains. The 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12 puts out 635 hp (467 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque, enabling the convertible to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds (0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds) and on to a top speed of 333 km/h (207 mph).
