Renault has updated its entire Megane range which now includes the Hatchback, Estate, R.S. Line, R.S. and R.S. Trophy. The new addition is the E-Tech Plug-in hybrid technology which also offers a pure electric driving range.

Compared with the outgoing models, there isn’t much to talk about the exterior styling updates except for the new Pure Vision LED headlamps. The R.S. Line replaces the old GT Line with a sportier look.

The Megane E-Tech Plug-in combines a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors and a clutchless transmission; the technology is similar to the one used in the Captur E-Tech we already saw.

With its 9.8 kWh (400V) battery capacity, the Megane E-Tech Plug-in can be driven on pure electric mode at speeds of up to 135 km/h, Renault said. Its range is claimed to be 50 km in a mixed cycle (WLTP) and up to 65 km over an urban cycle (WLTP City).

At launch, the E-Tech Plug-in will be available only as an Estate. It’ll also be offered on the hatchback variant at a later date.

The Megane R.S. packs a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine that puts out 220 kW (300 hp) and 420 Nm (+30 Nm) of torque with an EDC (dual-clutch) gearbox and 400 Nm with a manual gearbox.

The Sport 4Control chassis is claimed to offer maximum agility on tight corners and stability on fast bends. A new R.S. Monitor displays several vehicle parameters in real-time.

The track-focused R.S. Trophy is built on an exclusive Cup chassis. It features a mechanical Torsen limited-slip differential, which is claimed to make the car attack and exit corners more efficiently. The suspension spring stiffness is up by 30%, as well as an anti-roll bar with a 10% higher setting compared to the Megane R.S.
