Bajaj Auto has launched the Chetak electric scooter in India, priced at Rs 1 lakh for the Urbane and Rs 1.15 lakh for the Premium variant. Prices are ex-showroom, Pan India. Bookings will commence from Jan 15 in Pune and Bengaluru.
The Premium variant gets metallic colors while the Urbane variant is about solid colors; the latter doesn’t get the front disc brake either.
Other features include LED headlamp with horseshoe-shaped DRL, sequential LED turn signals at the rear, digital instrument cluster surrounded by a satin chrome bezel, under-seat storage, and a reverse mode as well.
The Chetak’s electric motor offers 4.08 kW (5.5 hp) of peak power and 3.8 kW (5 hp) of continuous power and 16 Nm of torque, drawing juice from a 3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that is claimed to offer a range of up to 95 km. Bajaj says that the battery is IP67 rated, meaning it is waterproof to a certain extent.
The scooter has Eco and Sport modes too; the latter will offer a range of up to 85 km.
As for charging times, Bajaj claims that the battery can be recharged to 100 percent in 5 hours. Charging for an hour will give 25 percent of juice, apparently. Bajaj is offering 3 years or 50,000 km warranty on the battery pack.
The Chetak electric will be initially available in Pune, followed by Bengaluru, and other parts of the country later in 2020. Deliveries are expected in February 2020.
