One year on from the world debut of the GR Supra at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Toyota is announcing the addition of a 2.0L engine for the European market, scheduled to go on sale from March 2020. The 2.0L engine was initially offered only for the Japanese market.
One of the benefits of having this engine variant is obviously the weight. According to Toyota, the entry-level model is 100 kg lighter than its 3.0-litre counterpart. And because the engine is more compact, it is positioned closer to the centre of the vehicle, helping secure an ideal 50:50 front-rear weight distribution.
Standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels, 8.8-inch infotainment system, 4-speakers, sports seats upholstered in black Alcantara, and safety features such as Pre-Crash Safety with Braking Function, Pedestrian and Cyclist detection with Braking Function, Lane Keep Assist with Active Steering, Road Sign Assist and Intelligent Speed Assist.
The Connect pack adds a navigation system and connectivity for online services, while the Sport pack introduces an active differential, adaptive variable suspension and sports-tuned brakes. The Premium pack gets a 12-speaker JBL premium sound system, a head-up display, wireless smartphone charger, black leather upholstery and power seat adjustment with memory setting.
Fuji Speedway limited edition
There’ll also be a Fuji Speedway limited edition (200 units), which gets a unique white metallic paint finish, 19-inch matt back alloy wheels and red door mirror housings. The cabin gets carbon fibre dashboard trim inserts and red and black Alcantara upholstery. This special edition also includes the aforementioned Connect and Sport packs.
The 2.0-litre (1,998 cc) in-line 4-cylinder twin-scroll turbo petrol engine puts out 190 kW (258 hp/255 bhp) between 5,000-6,500 rpm and 400 Nm of torque between 1,550-4,400 rpm. An 8-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels. A 0-100 km/h acceleration is claimed to happen in 5.2 seconds. Download the Supra 2.0 spec sheet here.
