The much-awaited Tata Nexon EV has been officially revealed today, with bookings starting from tomorrow (Dec 20) at Nexon EV official website. The Nexon EV is the first product from Tata Motors’ new EV technology brand called Ziptron.
As for the EV itself, there are some obvious design changes but it looks a bit different compared to the regular ICE-powered Nexon we know so far. The design changes also give us a hint of how the Nexon facelift would look like in the coming days. The front fascia has a new set of projector headlamps, new fog lamps and a restyled bumper.
The side profile remains largely unchanged except for that thick door cladding at the bottom and a subtle EV badge on the front door. However, the design looks rather busy with sharp creases and different colors in this example. At the rear, there are new taillamps and a restyled bumper. The EV rides on 16-inch wheels shod with 215/60 tyres.
As for the exterior colors, the Nexon EV will be available in Signature Teal Blue (featured here), Glacier White, and Moonlit Silver.
The Nexon EV will be available in three trims – XM, XZ+, and XZ+ LUX; the latter gets automatic headlamps and a sunroof.
The interiors have been freshened up too with blue accents and a semi-digital instrument cluster (7-inch MID). Other features depending on the variant include premium leatherette seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity, and auto AC.
Safety features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, cornering stability control, seat belt reminder, and speed sensing auto door lock. Download the Nexon EV spec sheet here.
The Nexon EV’s electric motor at the front puts out 125 hp and 245 Nm (181 lb-ft) of torque. The 30.2 kWh battery pack is claimed to offer a range of up to 300 km/186 mi (internal test data). A 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration is claimed to happen in 9.9 seconds. There are Drive and Sport modes as well.
The Nexon EV comes with a 3.3 kW on-board AC charger. The battery is capable of fast charging as well, and up to 80% of charge is claimed to happen in 60 minutes. Regular charging would take up to 8 hours.
Scheduled to be launched in January 2020, the Nexon EV is expected to be priced between INR 15 to 17 lakh ($21,080 – $23,900). Tata Motors is offering a warranty of 8 years or 1,60,000 km (whichever is earlier) on battery and motor.
Update: Tata Nexon EV launched at Rs 13.99 lakh
