Ford’s ‘Puma‘ nameplate which returned as a compact crossover in June, has received 5 star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests. In addition to the airbags, seat belt pretensioners and seat belt reminder, the crash tested Puma included standard active safety features such as Autonomous Emergency Braking and Lane Assist System.
The Puma was subjected to frontal offset impact, frontal full width impact, side crash, and pole crash tests.
Adult Occupant
For Adult Occupant Protection, the report said that the passenger compartment of the Puma remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger. Protection of the driver’s chest was rated as marginal. In the full-width rigid barrier test, protection of all critical body areas was good or adequate for both the driver and rear passenger.
In both the side barrier and the more severe side pole tests, protection of all critical body areas was good and the car scored full points in both of these tests. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision, the report added.
Child Occupant
As for Child Occupant Protection, the report said that in both the frontal and side barrier tests, protection of all critical body areas was good or adequate for both dummies. All restraint types for which the Puma is designed could be properly installed and accommodated. Full report here.
